CATHEDRAL COVE, HOT WATER BEACH,
THE ESTUARY
For
example, a 2 hour morning cruise with Blue Boat Cruises departs
the marina at 10.00 am and gives you a close up look at Cathedral
Cove, the islands within the reserve, and Cooks Beach where
Captain Cook anchored in 1769 to observe the transit of the
planet Mercury, along with a great commentary of local knowledge.

A 35 minute drive will have you at Hot Water Beach,
where at low tide you can dig your own hot pool and take in
the lovely views of the surrounding area. The next stop Hahei
and a 1 hour return walk to Cathedral Cove with it's beautiful
white sandy beach and breathtaking scenery. Stand inside the
natural rock amphitheatre or cool off under the waterfall.
Bring lots of film as this is truly the most picturesque spot
on the coast. You will find Horse Trekking available around
the district, one even does a Pub Crawl.
For large groups wishing to visit Whitianga then
a great idea would be for you all to base yourself at SHEARWATER
on the ESTUARY. Look out over our pool and the estuary and enjoy our BBQ area
while you reflect on the days journey .
Coromandel Township is just 48kms from Whitianga
and is a great day trip. Driving Creek Railway runs morning
and afternoon one hour return rain rides and is well worth
the drive.
Other activities
to be considered around the Mercury Bay area are, deep sea
fishing, diving, Kauri walks, fine dining, river boat cruise,
or if it's total relaxation you are after, then relax by the
pool, take a dip, throw a prawn on the barbie and sit back
and enjoy the wonderful views of the estuary.
